KATHMANDU: A crucial meeting of major three political parties –UCPN-Maoist, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) -- ended inconclusively on Saturday morning.
The meeting held at Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal’s official residence in Baluwatar could not take any crucial decision after the NC leaders walked out demanding inclusion of Madhes based parties in the meeting.
Emerging from the meeting NC vice-president and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said that the meeting was affected after his party demanded the inclusion of Madhes based parties saying that the 4th biggest force in the parliament should be included while discussing the issues related to national interest. “PM was reluctant to resign from the post,” he added.
Earlier, the PM had announced that he would tender his resignation from his post on August 13 if any remarkable progress was not seen in peace process and an environment of national consensus was not forged.
However, PM’s press advisor Surya Thapa informed that Khanal can re-think about tendering resignation if the parties agree on making a ‘breakthrough’ in peace process. “Otherwise, the PM would no longer stay in the post to clear the way on the ground of five point agreement made between the major three parties earlier,” Thapa added.
The PM is expected to tender his resignation if he fails to convince the parties in today's meeting.
